Mod Kit for the Blackheart Little Giant BH5 (Head or Combo) Amp
This is a mod kit for the Blackheart Little Giant BH5. This amp is a 5 watt, single-ended, Class A amp sporting a 12AX7 preamp , an EL84 tube power tube, a full 3-band tone stack, a Pentode/Triode switch and PLENTY of gain (maybe too much). The circuit board was designed as a great platform for modding with beefy components, wide spacing and robust traces. There are both head and combo versions. <></>
The BitMo Triple Bypass kit contains parts and instructions and makes the amp much more versatile by adding 3-way switching between different voicings. The middle position offers a nice balanced tone with a bit more clean headroom. The 2nd position offers a dollop of fatback gain with a chocolaty brown sound. The 3rd position offers a tighter, biting boost ? good for thinning muddy humbuckers. All 3 voicings are very touch sensitive and great across the full range of the volume control going from warm or sparkly clean to balzout overdrive with lots of interesting shades in between.
The Bypass name comes from the fact that the switch does a partial bypass of some of the amp?s stock components and runs through the BitMo voicing circuits. The tone controls operate slightly differently with each switch position, and the triode switch (which BTW, I would not trade for a standby switch) provides more compressed, tweed-like tone sculpting options.
The modded amp works well with the standard 12AX7 but I think its even better with lower gain tubes like a NOS 5751 or a 12 AT7. It also loves overdrive and distortion pedals.
Check out the demo clip. Al Knight of Frantic played a Fender American Strat and a Hamer with humbuckers while I toggled the Bypass switch and twiddled the knobs. Played through a Weber 12" Blue Dog ceramic speaker, recorded with a Sennheiser e609 on the grill and a Cascade Fat Head ribbon mic 12" out - no pedals, FX or processing.

The kit includes stick on labels and drilling template ? No decals required! You can also mount the switch on the back pannel if you prefer.
(The BitMo 10-uator Plate also works great with this amp and fits perfectly on the back panel of the head.)
