If it has a tube in it you know I gotta mod it!
This is a mod kit for the Behringer VT911 Vintage Tube Overdrive Pedal.
Here’s the description of the pedal from the Behringer web site:
With the VINTAGE TUBE OVERDRIVE VT911 effects pedal, you get distortion with the distinctive tonal quality that only a real tube can deliver, bringing vintage sound back to life.
Almost every nuance of wanted distortion tones can be found in the classic tube overdrive pedal VT911. This high-quality classic tube overdrive pedal is based on a hand-selected 12AX7 vacuum tube and offers dedicated Drive, Tone and Level controls for awesome sound shaping. A status LED for effect On/Off is included, plus there is a true hard-wire bypass for ultimate signal integrity.
Discover the classic distortion sound only a real tube can deliver!
OK - reality check…Out of the box, the pedal sounds more like a fuzz box than an over-driven tube. There is no just-on-the-edge setting, just fuzz to mega-fuzz.
However – the BitMo 2BO mods totally change the gain structure and voicing of the pedal, properly driving the tube and making it sound much more like a juicy tube amp. You can go from an clean boost, through touch sensitive blues overdrive, classic rock crunch, to full-on singing distortion. The re-voiced tone control is very useful too.
It’s hard to believe how great this little thing can sound with these simple mods. There are no dangerous voltages and the whole operation takes about a half hour.
This is a great 1st kit or an add-on to your BitMo modded amp. What ya got to loose?
How do the 2 Behringer pedals compare? After the mods ...
The VT999 Monster is more versitile, quieter and can get great tweed to metal distortion and everything in between.
The VT911 Overdrive is more classic rock, a bitmo loose and juicy (and cheaper too ;^)
· Tools needed: Phillips head screwdriver, wire cutters, soldering iron with a fine tip, rosin core solder, and needle nose pliers.
